Square footage and how much prep the slab needs. A bare, clean floor is the low end, while a slab with glue, paint, or patches on it takes more work before any color goes on. Any broken areas should get concrete repair first, and the patched spots can show through the stain. Where patches would show, a stamped concrete overlay can cover them instead. Acid stain becomes part of the concrete, so the color itself cannot peel off. Dyes and brighter colors hold up better away from direct sun. The sealer is the part that wears, and how often it is renewed depends on the floor. A garage floor where cars park is better off with epoxy flooring, since hot tires can pull up a sealer.

Sweep it and damp-mop it with a neutral cleaner. Harsh cleaners can strip the sealer. Outdoors, stained concrete walkways and concrete patios need resealing sooner, since sun and rain work on them all year.
